Internasional Community Service with JICA and Yamaguchi University; Improving Cattle Breeding with AI (Artificial Intelligence) based Method

For more than 10 years, the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Universitas Gadjah Mada has collaborated with Yamaguchi University, Japan. This collaboration began in 2008. During that time, many FKH lecturers have continued their doctoral education at Yamaguchi University and some are currently studying there.

On Friday, March 1st 2024, Faculty of Veterinary Meidicine UGM and Yamaguchi University renewed their collaboration agreement in the academic field. On this occasion, five delegates from JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency) and Yamaguchi University visited Gadjah Mada University, Yogyakarta, namely Prof. Hiroshi Sato, DVM, Ph.D., Masayasu Taniguchi, DVM., Ph.D., Dr. drh. Maiku Abe, Ph.D from Yamaguchi University, and Prof. Takeshige Otoi, DVM., Ph.D. from Tokushima University. Apart from signing the MoU, Prof. Hiroshi Sato also presented the collaboraton theme entitled Improving Cattle Breeding Management for the Well-being of Farmers.

After the MoU signing ceremony, a public lecture was held at 09.00 am. Speakers at the public lecture included Prof. Takeshige Otoi, DVM., Ph.D. which carried out the title Development of AI (Artifical Intelligence) Based Method for Diagnosing the Right Time for Insemination in Cattle, and Masayasu Taniguchi, DVM., Ph. D. which carried out the title Estrus Synchronization Protocol and Results on Beef Cattle at Gunungkidul Regency. The event was attended by approximately 89 participants, namely students of the veterinary profession, and employees of the Livestock and Animal Health Service, the Food, Agriculture, Maritime and Fisheries Service, and the Agriculture and Food Security Service. This public lecture explains more effective techniques for inseminating cattle at the right time, and the results of synchronizing estrus in beef cattle in the Gunung Kidul area.Tags: public lecture, Cooperation agreement, cow insemination
