Pangururan, July 2026 – As an effort to support sustainable village economic growth through the development of the livestock sector, the team from the Community Service (KKN-PPM) Universitas Gadjah Mada carried out a program to improve the health of livestock through vitamin injections and the administration of dewormers. This activity was held in two villages, Sialanguan Village on July 11th 2026 and Siopat Sosor Village on July 12th -13th 2026, Pangururan District, Samosir Regency, North Sumatra. The program focuses on providing deworming supplements as an effort to prevent helminthiasis, accompanied by vitamins administration for ruminant livestock and pigs to support their health and productivity conditions.
This program was initiated by Nadila, a student of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Universitas Gadjah Mada. The implementation of the program is a form of community service as well as the application of knowledge and skills acquired during her education in college. Through this activity, Nadila had the opportunity to apply her competence in the field of animal health directly to provide benefits for people who own livestock in Samosir Regency, an area known for its natural charm and is often dubbed as the Paradise Land.
The condition in the field shows that helminthiasis is still one of the health problems that often attack ruminant livestock. Therefore, this program serves as a preventive effort to maintain livestock health and improve the welfare of farmers. The implementation of this program also received support from the Samosir Regency Food Security, Agriculture and Fisheries Service (DKPP). The veterinary medical team help supervising the activity. In addition, coordination with the village government and farmer groups is carried out from the planning stage to ensure that the program run effectively. After the location and schedule of the implementation were agreed, Nadila and the team carried out a survey to the farmers and their surrounding livestock pens. The survey was done to collect the data of livestock as well as giving socialization to farmers about the benefits of providing vitamins and deworming to livestock and how to it safely. At this stage, an examination of the health condition of livestock is carried out to ensure its eligibility to receive vitamin and deworming.
After that, Nadila, with assistance from the Samosir Regency DKPP and village officials, carried out the activities using medical equipment in accordance with animal health service standards. This program also received support from PT Medion Farma Jaya which provided Wormzol-B and Wormzol-K dewormers, as well as ADE-Plex Inj and B-Plex vitamin injections.
The implementation of this activity is in line with efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This activity contributes to SDGs point 2 (Zero Hunger) through improving livestock health to support livestock productivity and a more optimal and sustainable animal food production system. In addition, this activity also supports SDGs point 3 (Good Health and Well-Being) and SDGs point 4 (Quality Education) through educating the importance of animal health, doing preventive efforts in the form of providing deworming and vitamins to maintain health, increase immunity, and prevent diseases in livestock animals. This program also contributes to SDGs point 15 (Life on Land) and SDGs point 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production) by encouraging responsible livestock health management practices, preventing diseases in animals, and supporting the sustainability of biological resources in the terrestrial environment. On the other hand, increasing the health and productivity of livestock is expected to be able to provide better economic value for farmers so as to support the achievement of SDGs point 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) and SDGs point 17 (Partnership for the Goal) through strengthening collaboration with farmers, government officials, and university students, hand in hand increasing livestock business productivity and community welfare.
