On Saturday, June 1st 2024, the Tunas Harapan Orphanage in Yogyakarta was filled with warmth and joy as it welcomed a visit from Christian Students Family (PMK) & Catholic Students Family (KMK) Faculty of Veterinary Medicine UGM, who were committed to spreading kindness and love. This social service event was part of a joint effort to provide moral and material support to the children living in the orphanage.
The activities began at 9:00 AM with the tagline “Sharing Love, Serving Each Other, In God’s Love.” In addition to distributing material aid, PMK & KMK FKH UGM also organized various creative and interactive activities to entertain the children. These activities included fun games such as a competition to create the longest line using surrounding objects, arranging friends in a group in a single line, and a picture relay. The event continued with an animal education session where the children were given educational material about animals and had direct contact with them, including cats, geckos, snakes, dogs, frogs, and sulcata tortoises. All activities were designed to create valuable moments, as well as to provide education and enjoyment for the children at the orphanage.
Following the education session, there was a creativity session where the children made keepsakes on canvas paper by imprinting finger paint. The children were enthusiastic and eager to express their creativity. The event culminated in the distribution of competition winners in various categories: Most Active, Most Enthusiastic, Most Creative, Most Cooperative, and Most Adorable. The event concluded with the handover of social service donations from PMK & KMK FKH UGM to the Tunas Harapan Orphanage, and ended with a group photo.
This social service event not only provided direct benefits to the children at the orphanage but also taught values of caring, empathy, and kindness to the younger generation. The spirit of mutual cooperation and social care demonstrated by PMK & KMK FKH UGM is tangible proof that kindness can always be spread, even in the simplest moments. It is hoped that such activities will continue and inspire more people to participate in helping those in need. Indeed, every act of kindness we give will return to us many times over.
