Department of Parasitology
Department of Parasitology is an institution that is inseparable from the UGM Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, constantly developing oneself that utilizes existing facilities, infrastructure, and human resources as an effort in handling and preventing parasitic diseases as well as developing the capacity of academic institutions that carry out education, research and community service.

Public Services
Public service carried out by the Department of Parasitology in the form of diagnosis, counseling, and treatment of parasitic diseases. In the implementation of this activity, students were involved in the community service aimed at the farmers, breeders and various institutions related to animal husbandry and breeders in Yogyakarta Special Region and its surroundings.
Public Service Unit
As one of the laboratories that are members of the Diagnostic Laboratory of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine UGM, the Department of Parasitology opens services to students, researchers, agencies, livestock industry and the general public who will check faecal, urine, exudate, blood, skin scrapings and so on possibilities of infections and parasitic infestations in animals, livestock and fish. Information about public services is always carried out as a form of application of research results that can be used by the community. Many people who use these services come and utilize this service, related to parasitic diseases in pets, large and small livestock, exotic animals, aquatic animals and fish. The Department of Parasitology always assists and provides information to the public regarding actual disease data, both parasitic diseases that are pathogenic, non-pathogenic to zoonotic ones through direct counseling, information boards, print and electronic media.
Collaboration
The Department of Parasitology, both individually and institutionally, has collaboration with institutions in the country and abroad. The collaboration covers various fields of parasitic research and the field of natural resource concentration.

Basic Veterinary Parasitology Basic veterinary parasitology is the study of parasites that affect domestic and wild animals. Areas of study including their life cycles, transmission, diagnosis, treatment, and control. This includes a wide range of parasites such as protozoa, helminths (worms), arthropods (e.g., ticks and fleas), and other organisms that live on or within animal hosts. Basic veterinary parasitology is essential for the diagnosis and treatment of parasitic infections in animals. It involves understanding the different species of parasites that affect different types of animals, the signs and symptoms of parasitic infections, and the methods used to diagnose and treat them. In basic veterinary parasitology, students learn about the life cycle and transmission of various parasites, including the biology and behavior of their intermediate and definitive hosts. Basic veterinary parasitology is important for veterinarians, veterinary technicians, and other animal health professionals to effectively prevent, diagnose, and treat parasitic infections in animals, which can have a significant impact on animal health and productivity, as well as public health.

The course of Veterinary Parasitology is a mandatory course with a credit load of 3/1. This course explains diseases in animals caused by parasites. Various parasitic diseases in animals such as poultry, ruminants, non-ruminants, carnivores, wildlife, and fish will be described. Students will also learn about many parasites, such as worms, protozoa, and arthropods, migration, pathogenesis, transmission, pathological changes, clinical signs and symptoms, diagnostic methods, treatment, and control. The causes of the diseases, the resulting symptoms, and their treatments will be discussed in the course, which includes face-to-face lectures, practicals, small group discussions (SGD), and assignments. Small group discussions (SGD) discuss a case according to the learning materials. Assessment is done through final exams, midterms, quizzes, assignments, presentations, practicals (pre-test and post-test), responsi, and activities in small group discussions (SGD).

This course will discuss the Poultry Business in Indonesia, which has a significant contribution in providing animal protein in the form of chicken meat and eggs, the prospects and challenges of the poultry business in Indonesia, and the management of poultry farming in tropical areas. The course will also cover the management of layer chicken farming, the commercial housing system for chicken farming, the implementation of biosecurity in every farming business, vaccination and vaccination programs, vaccination application in commercial chicken farming, and the treatment of commercial chicken farming. The course will explain modern broiler chicken farming management with an open or closed shed system. The course material will be presented by practitioners with extensive experience in the poultry business and management. Additionally, students will learn about the analysis of commercial chicken farming businesses, so they will be well equipped (in accordance with the course outcome/CO) to enter the poultry industry after graduation.
