WORLD VETERINARY DAY 2025 “Sinergi Animal Welfare dan One Health: Menjamin Kesejahteraan Bersama”

World Veterinary Day is a series of activities organized by the Student Family of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Universitas Gadjah Mada to commemorate World Veterinary Day. This year, World Veterinary Day carries the theme “Sinergi Animal Welfare dan One Health: Menjamin Kesejahteraan Bersama” with a series of events, including webinars, infographic competitions, creative video competitions, air campaigns, and internal campaigns.

            The series of events began with the opening of the infographic competition with the theme “Kesejahteraan Hewan sebagai Pilar Kesehatan Masyarakat” and the creative video competition with the theme “One Health dalam Aksi: Cerita Sehari – hari untuk Kesejahteraan Hewan” which can be participated by all high school students and undergraduate students of Veterinary Medicine. From these two competitions, the first, second, and third-place winners will be chosen and announced on May 24, 2025, at the same time as the webinar.

The first event was an internal campaign conducted by all committees in the environment around the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Universitas Gadjah Mada from April 24 to May 9, 2025. This activity was carried out by approaching and educating FKH UGM students regarding the urgency of animal welfare and one health. This activity was closed with an interactive quiz about the material that had been presented, with prizes in the form of World Veterinary Day 2025 merchandise stickers.

Then, on May 24, 2025, a webinar was held via the zoom platform with the title “Synergy of Animal Welfare and One Health Integrated Strategy for Shared Welfare” which was attended by 78 participants. In this webinar, interesting materials were presented by drh. Dinar Arifianto, M.Sc, as the first speaker who delivered material on Horse Health and Welfare from a One Health Perspective, Dr. drh. Vincentia Trisna Yoelinda, M.Si as the second speaker, conveyed the urgency of Animal Welfare and One Health for Wildlife, and drh. Geraldus Gunawan, as the third speaker from PT. Agroveta Husada Dharma as the main sponsor of World Veterinary Day 2025.

The webinar ended with an interactive quiz with the participants. The final and closing activity was conducted, specifically the air campaign from May 25 – June 2, 2025, which was carried out by volunteers who had been equipped with materials in the previous webinar. The implementation of the air campaign was carried out by providing information related to animal welfare and one health in the form of infographics which were then disseminated through the volunteers’ social media.

A series of World Veterinary Day 2025 activities are related to SDGs point 4, namely Quality Education and SDGs point 15, namely Land Ecosystems. In this activity, it is hoped that learning and education in the field of veterinary science will be achieved which is beneficial and the achievement of one health as the primary goal in maintaining the welfare and balance of the shared environment. This activity also discusses the health and welfare of horses from one-health perspective so that SDGs point 15, specifically land ecosystems.

In celebration of World Veterinary Day 2025, a series of events were held to raise awareness on the critical role of veterinary science in achieving several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 2 (Zero Hunger), SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being), SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 13 (Climate Action), SDG 15 (Life on Land), and SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions). Through a featured webinar focusing on “Equine Health and Welfare in the One Health Perspective and the Urgency of Animal Welfare for Wildlife”, the event emphasized the importance of One Health as a collaborative, cross-sectoral approach to ensuring animal welfare, human health, and environmental sustainability. Discussions highlighted the vital role of horses and wildlife in maintaining ecosystem balance, illustrating how integrated efforts are key to ecological harmony. The program aimed to foster impactful education in veterinary science while reinforcing the understanding that animal health is inseparable from sustainable development and collective well-being.
