Furthermore, Muhammad Munawaroh, DVM, MM., also advised new veterinarians to continue practicing veterinary sciences and never forgetting the veterinarians code of ethics.

Moving on to the next speech, Prof. Teguh Budipitojo, DVM., M.P., Ph.D said that as a veterinarian, one must have the responsibility to contribute to the control and eradication of animal diseases such as the current issue of Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD). After more than 30 years of being free from FMD, this disease has been detected again in Indonesia. Although the current condition is under control, the FMD has not been yet completely handled. Therefore, veterinarians are responsible to control and eradicate this disease through education, early detection and appropriate intervention.

In addition to handling FMD, veterinarians also have a crucial role in food security. The safety and quality of animal products are one aspect that must be closely monitored. Therefore, the task of veterinarians is to ensure that the food production chain from livestock in the field to the people’s dining table runs well and is free from the threat of zoonotic diseases. That way, the veterinary profession has a broad impact on the welfare of humans, animals and the environment.

The inauguration of 191 students as new veterinarians along with all the ceremony processes support the values of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), namely Quality Education, Good Health and Well-being, Reduced Inequalities, Gender Equality, Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions, Partnerships for the Goals, Zero Hunger.
