Yogyakarta, 17 June 2026 – The Department of Pharmacology, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FVM UGM), organized a Guest Lecture as part of the Visiting Professor 2026 program on Wednesday (17/6) at Room 101, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine UGM. The lecture featured Professor Ts. Dr. Zainul Amiruddin Zakaria, FRSBiol, FIBMS, FAcadTM, from the Borneo Research on Algesia, Inflammation and Neurodegeneration (BRAIN) Research Group, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Universiti Malaysia Sabah, Malaysia. The event brought together faculty members and students to discuss the latest developments in molecular pharmacology and their implications for veterinary medicine.
The guest lecture was officially opened by the Vice Dean for Academic and Student Affairs of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Universitas Gadjah Mada, Prof. Agung Budiyanto, DVM., M.P., Ph.D. Recognizing the significance of the topic for the future of veterinary medicine, the event was open to faculty members and students from all academic levels at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, UGM. The lecture provided an opportunity for participants to broaden their understanding of the latest advances in molecular pharmacology and their applications in animal health.
Entitled “Current Trends in Molecular Pharmacology: From Genes to Therapies – What’s New in Animal Health?”, the lecture highlighted emerging innovations that are reshaping the future of veterinary practice. Professor Zainul presented recent advances in precision medicine, biologics and monoclonal antibodies, RNA therapeutics, and the application of artificial intelligence (AI) in accelerating drug discovery and development. He emphasized that molecular pharmacology is no longer confined to laboratory research but has become an essential component of modern veterinary medicine, enabling more precise, effective, and evidence-based clinical decision-making.
The interactive discussion session reflected the participants’ strong interest in the practical implementation of these emerging technologies in animal health. Beyond enriching academic knowledge, the Guest Lecture also strengthened international academic engagement between FKH UGM and Universiti Malaysia Sabah, fostering opportunities for future collaboration in education, research, and scientific innovation.
Through the Visiting Professor 2026 program, FKH UGM continues to promote an internationally oriented academic environment while encouraging innovation in veterinary education and research. The program also contributes to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education) by enhancing academic excellence and knowledge exchange, SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) through advances in animal health that support the One Health approach, and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) by strengthening international collaboration between higher education institutions.
