Good News, the First Veterinary Pharmacy in Indonesia At UGM Yogyakarta

The UGM Veterinary Pharmacy officially operates on Thursday, December 6th, 2018. UGM Veterinary Pharmacy was established as a solution in solving problems in the handling and control of drug residues in animals, drug resistance, especially antibiotics, providing better services and solutions for the community in addressing a problem, as well as learning facilities for students”, said Dr. drh. Agustina Dwi Wijayanti, M.P. as the chairman of the team for the establishment of UGM Veterinary Pharmacy. On the occasion of this event, an MOU was signed which was a form of cooperation between Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Faculty of Pharmacy UGM.

Dean of the Faculty of Medicine UGM, Prof. Dr. drh. Siti Isrina Oktavia Salasia explained that, “the main problem in the community related to the veterinary world is the occurrence of drug resistance and drug residues such as antibiotics or Antibiotic Growth Promotore (AGP) and hormones due to inappropriate use in animals. UGM Veterinary Pharmacy will become an initiator and Trand Center so that other veterinary pharmacies will emerge in Indonesia “.

Prof. Agung Endro Nugroho, M.Sc., Ph.D. Apt., As Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy UGM added, “Veterinary Pharmacy is a challenge and a new thing for the world of Pharmacy”. Veterinary pharmacy have a strategic role in controlling antibiotics. This role is very much needed in the world of health today. Now in the Faculty of Pharmacy there is a professional program or co-existence, which in the future will send students to be able to study as pharmacists at Veterinary Pharmacy, not only as pharmacists in regular pharmacies and this is an excellent learning platform for the advancement of education in the health sector in Indonesia, he added.

The First Veterinary Pharmacy in Indonesia was inaugurated by UGM Vice Chancellor for Planning, Finance and Information Systems, Dr. Supriyadi, M.Sc., Akt. In his speech, he explained, “the increasing number of animal lovers in Indonesia, makes Veterinary Pharmacy a solution that we should be proud of. We hope that in the future there will be a Professional level in the Faculty of Pharmacy regarding veterinary medicines so that veterinary pharmacists will emerge who are ready and competent in the world of work and in society.
